flyOS (“flyOS,” “the app,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is developed by Mythical Creature, LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information flyOS accesses on your device, why, and, the short version, what we do not collect, store, or transmit, because flyOS has no servers to send anything to.
flyOS runs entirely on your iPhone. There is no account, no backend server, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in flyOS, including the camera feed the fly lives in, ever leaves your device unless you personally choose to save or share a photo.
We do not collect, and flyOS has no technical means to transmit:
To work, flyOS requests a small number of iOS permissions, each used only for the feature it names:
Camera. flyOS uses your rear camera to show your room in augmented reality, and your front camera for the selfie mode. Camera frames are processed in memory to render the fly and are never written to disk, stored, or transmitted anywhere, not to us, not to any third party.
Motion & orientation. flyOS reads your device’s motion sensors (via Apple’s ARKit) to determine which way is “down” and to place the fly correctly on a surface in your room. This data is used live and is never stored or sent anywhere.
Photos (add-only). If you tap the shutter and choose to save a picture, flyOS asks for permission to add that one photo to your Photos library. flyOS cannot read, browse, or access any other photo already in your library. iOS grants add-only access, and that is all we request.
When you take a photo in flyOS, it, and the metadata sheet that goes with it (what the fly’s simulated brain was doing), is stored in flyOS’s private app container on your device until you choose to save it to Photos or share it. If you delete flyOS from your device, this data is deleted along with it. We never see it; we have no server to send it to.
flyOS’s simulated fly runs on real connectome data from the MaleCNS v1.0 dataset (Berg et al., Cell, 2026), used under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. This is neuroscience research data bundled into the app to build its simulation. It is not data about you, and using flyOS does not send any information to the dataset’s authors or publishers. Full attribution is available in the app’s credits.
flyOS does not knowingly direct itself at children under 13 and, in any case, collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, because it has no means to collect or transmit it.
Because flyOS collects nothing, there is no account to delete and no data-export or data-deletion request to make. You remain in full control of your device and your data:
Because flyOS never transmits data off your device, there is no server-side data of yours to secure. The information flyOS does handle locally is protected by iOS’s standard app-sandboxing and file protection.
If flyOS’s data practices ever change (for example, if a future version adds an optional network feature), we will update this page and the effective date above before that version ships, and, where required, ask for your permission again.
